I thought about Elvis, but I am not sure how well he stood in against the run at DE;that in fact may be one reason the Broncos moved to a 3-4.
Coach McKay once said that it wasn't that he was crazy about the 3-4, but that that was the type of player the colleges were producing.

Absolutely. I think Graham would be just fine in our system, and Hughes might be the best pure pass rusher in this class. Hughes may (and I stress may) not be a 3 down player at DE, but Elvis Dumervil has done quite well for himself at a similar size. I know Denver runs a 3-4 now, but he did quite well in their 4-3.

Do you really think Hughes & Graham are 4-3 DEs?? Kinda small to play in the NFL with a hand down. I see them as 34 OLBs more.

I agree with you on the DE situation. I could see them attempting to get by with Moore and Crowder over there. My ideal scenario has us bringing in Kampman, but re-signing Wilkerson would probably be more likely. We'll get a RE in the draft, and I'd be pleased if Jerry Hughes somehow slipped to them in R2.

I don't see us working anything out with St. Louis. Trading up with one of the second round picks seems more likely to me. In fact, Im far more convinced that we'll move up with one of those two picks than I am that we'll hold tight and pick where we are. It seems like Dominik's style to jump if he sees a player he likes on the board, and guys like Hughes, Weatherspoon, and Graham might give him an itch dial finger.

SS's are always like that; John Lynch wasn't a fluid player. He got by on football smarts. Asante seems to me to have good instincts, but I am no scout & don't have film of him.We will see what her runs at the Combine.

Well, at sam, the worst they could do is status quo.

My take is that the staff wants to see what Crowder & Moore can do at DLE, although Steve White thinks Tim could be on the bubble. I see RE as the position of need, assuming you go after an end.But in this scheme, a dynamic, athletic UT can make DEs look a whole lot better.

I kinda like the deal as posited; if the price is a #2, Josh the Lesser would still be available to be dealt. (I just don't think the club can develop two young guys at the same time, although I do like Johnson.)But the Pewter Report, which is quasi-official,pooh-poohs the notion:"Not to say there's no validity to this report, but what's being suggested in this article goes against everything PewterReport.com has heard through its league and team sources over the past several weeks. We've been told there is no way the Buccaneers will trade up with the Rams in the first round because the cash-strapped Bucs are looking to reduce expenses, not add them, and due to the fact that Tampa Bay is coming off a 3-13 season and needs all of its draft picks in order to improve its roster and upgrade a few starting positions."

With you 100% on P.-P.. Too much of a boom-or-bust type for Tampa to take in rd.1, let alone #3 overall. But he, Dunlap, & Mays will wow this week.

Mike,
Asante isn’t high on my want list. I’m picky given the depth at the position, and Asante looked a little too stiff and unable to cover a lot of ground when I watched him.

I’m all in favor of trying to see if Crowell has anything left, but I’m not holding my breath after him not taking a snap for the last two seasons. Don’t let him be Plan A.

White’s right in that Kampman is a left side guy. I mention him because our pass rush situation is horrible, he’s got talent as long as he recovers from the knee, and he’s unlikely to draw huge interest (I would think). Whether it’s LE or RE we need pass rushers.

Regarding the link, yeah I read that yesterday. I’m not getting my hopes up, but if I could handle that scenario. I’m still a big Josh Johnson fan, but you’ve got to weigh the value of keeping him as a career #2 behind Freeman or getting some value for him that would help you elsewhere. The part of that article that makes me sick is the thought of taking JPP with the third pick. Yes he seems to have quite a ceiling, but he’s starting to look like this year’s unnecessary postseason riser. You know, the guys who get better all of a sudden without playing a down of football.

If the Bucs aren't wild about Berry, I would have no problem if they moved down & took Haden or McClain. (I kinda like Larry Asante later in the draft.)
Crowell did pretty well in Buffalo; his biceps injury is long-healed, & he says he would like to stay in Tampa (I'd work for the minimum after getting paid for doing zilch in 2009, but that's just me).
I agree 100% on Zuttah. The guy is almost too valuable as a back-up to start. & he said he hates playing on the left side (this makes a surprising amount of difference to some linemen).
Great minds think alike!! I just this morning posted at joebucsfan.com that I'd like to get Kampman!! But White thinks he is a pure left-side guy.Coming off an injury I think & 30, but players who can get after the QB can get a lot of offers.

Mike,
I agree with what you’re saying about Ruud and the problem not solely being his. I think most Bucs fans would say that DT is the bigger need, but that doesn’t mean that wee need to stop there. I see an opportunity for improvement in the middle, and the way I make that move allows us to upgrade two positions. I think McClain is more of the MLB that we need, and moving Ruud out to SLB improves that spot as well.

I mentioned Crowell as a free agent possibility last season before free agency kicked off, but the guy has missed the last two seasons and wasn’t really lighting OBP on fire when he arrived. I’d think he’s option F at the moment.

I’d have a problem going with a corner with our first pick, but seeing as how there’s no one on the roster to take Ronde’s spot if this ends up being his last season, then I think you need to address it a little sooner this year than Raheem did in ’09 with Biggers.

Berry NEEDS to be Ed Reed or better to justify the #3 pick. This draft is really deep at safety, and our head coach is supposed to know a thing or two about coaching those guys up. I’m recommending Barry Church in round 6, but my favorite is Chad Jones. I’d love to acquire another pick by trading down in R1 and using it on Jones in R2.

Yeah, LG was the weakest part of the OL last year, and while I like Zuttah, he may be better off as a versatile backup. I hope Sears does get himself back in shape, but from what I’ve heard he’s still got a ways to go.

As far as free agency goes, I’m not holding out much hope for anything significant. The one guy I do hope they’re pursuing is Aaron Kampman; a proven 4-3 pass rusher who probably won’t have 30 teams gunning for his services.

It is staring to look like Arron Sears will be back for the 2010 season, which will obviate the need to take a guard in this draft, I would think.
