It’s no secret that I haven’t been one of Michael Clayton’s most ardent supporters over the years. The Louisiana wideout has been a failure since his breakout rookie season in 2004. That year, Clayton led all NFL rookies in receptions (80) and scored 7 TDs. He was one of the few bright spots on an ugly 5-11 football team and looked to be on his way to justifying the 15th overall selection.

But that’s as good as it got for Clayton. He’s caught a whopping 141 passes over the last 5 seasons (that’s an average of 28 per year) and has found the endzone just 3 more times than I have from the comfortable confines of my couch. His blocking has always been his best asset, but when you pay a receiver $24 million for 5 years of service, I don’t think asking him to score twice in a season is too big of a request.

Well folks, my access is almost over (I have one more day of access) but this event was a good time. It was not the meaty practice that I like but for fans it was a good time. The skills competitions were a little goofy but we did get a small session of goalline.

Thanks again to Tom Mitchel (BucFire) for his outstanding shots. They are easy to separate from mine. I did try to get some shots of the vastly upgraded dance number by the cheerleaders (seriously, how many times can we hear “Dude Looks Like a Lady!”).

Sadly, this is one of the last updates for camp as the mainstream media has a lock on access moving forward. Maybe they will actually put out content that is useful (doubt it). Key notes from today were:

1. Better Tempo
2. More crisp practice overall
3. Offense held its own
4. Installation of trickeration

We will be at the evening practice as well and will strive to get any updates we can to you folks as we get them.

I had no shutterbug with me today so the picture set is not as significant as before. I tried to get you guys a few good ones for autographs.

We were in attendance today again as the Bucs continue to make strides toward the 2010 season. While overall energy was down, we had a nice fight between Eric Lorig and Demar Dotson in line drills which woke the crowd up. Quick Take:

1. Low Energy
2. Improved Accuracy
3. Fewer WR Drops
4. More CB Drops on INT’s
5. Defense is WAY ahead

Today I had no Roman, so I had to do most of my own camera work. Fortunately, Mrs. BucNutz showed and took over allowing us to get a pretty good set (that is a joke) of pictures.

Back in camp as us regular folks were allowed in again. Nice practice overall. Some observations:

1. Better Pace
2. Fewer drops by WR
3. CB’s playing better than previously even thought they had a few INT drops
4. K2 looked healthy and good
5. Benn still solid on his route running
6. Defense did well in goalline.

Day 3 was HOT! A good practice session with more of the offense to watch and improvements on defense. Right now, the front 7 looks solid but our CB’s need some help. Even our young (and challenged) WR group was owning them today and doing so with passing accuracy that is, to be kind, less than optimal. Overall the team looks like a team having their third significant practice.

Key Concern: Freeman still staring down receivers. This has GOT to stop. Also concerned that the snap seems to be a struggle. Last I checked, we have to do that regularly.
