The Tampa Bay Buccaneers turnaround in between season from finishing 3-13 to 10-6 was a big surprise. The fact that the team picked up head coach Raheem Morris option to pay him $2 million per season over each of the next two seasons was not.
Morris, the youngest head coach in the NFL, orchestrated the biggest turnaround in Bucs history with the NFL’s youngest team. Needless to say, things are looking up for the coach and the franchise. People making their NFL predictions found @ betus.com won’t sleep on this team any longer.
Although it looked like it might be worse, the Bucs won’t have to replace much off of their coaching staff. Quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt was up for the job at the University of Pittsburgh but he didn’t get it. That means the Bucs have just one major hole to fill on the staff: special teams coach Rich Bissaccia. He was given an offer to return to Tampa Bay for his ninth season but he instead took off for San Diego. If anyone watched the Chargers special teams in 2010-11, they could really use him.
Nonetheless, the Bucs will replace him with Dwayne Stukes, who has has been an assistant with the Bucs for five years.
The Bucs did win their race to 10 games in 2010 and next year, it’s going to be a race to 11. With most of the staff intact and such a young team coming back (10 rookies started, which is the most by a winning team since the AFL-NFL merger) with more experience, they should be in good shape to achieve that goal and maybe even make the playoffs.
