Cuts and Shockers and Trades, Oh My!

Well, the final cut has hit and the Bucs made no real big surprise moves today folks. As mentioned on Thursday’s show, the Bucs have opted to go without a true backup FB (Cook) and rather leverage their stable of RB’s and BJ Askew (please have someone tape his ankles). Other notables were…Matt Bryant. Not a big surprise as he kicked the ball about 5 times in camp and preseason, but still a bit of a shocker considering the fact that he has been a good and fairly reliable kicker for the Bucs. Facts are, if you cannot put it on tape, you get cut (unless you are Mike Clayton….ZING!) the rest of the roster mods are listed (redundantly to the other 7000 Bucs websites) below:

  • DE Louis Holmes
  • RB Kareem Huggins
  • CB Darrell Hunter
  • T James Lee
  • TE Jason Pociask
  • TE Ryan Purvis
  • LB Bo Ruud
  • WR Mario Urrutia

The Shocker!

Not really, but once Luke was relegated to the #2 spot, we said they may as well trade him if they could get anything. Early leaders in the hunt was Green Bay, but out of nowhere came Jax with an offer too good to refuse. Maybe Luke will have better luck there. I hope so.

Where I screwed up

In the show where we covered the final cuts, I made a few mistakes. Here they are:

I had Torrie Cox and Rod Wilson being cut. The need for depth at CB and Linebacker clearly exceeded their assy performance on the field.

I had the following players making the cut and they are now unemployed:

  • Alabi, Anthony
  • Arrington, Kyle
  • Urrutia, Mario
  • Nicholson, Donte
  • Holmes, Louis

Some of the lineman were surprising as they had just arrived, but given the poor overall play of our reserves on the line, my guess is this is an economic decision. Look for the Bucs to add a CB and a WR from the castoffs around the league promptly. With Talib out (suspected) due to his cabbie incident, we are beyond thin at corner and with 5 WR, two of whom either barely played in or completely missed the preseason and about 60 minutes of gametime in the NFL at the wideout spot behind them, this team needs another decent WR. (God, haven’t we said that before?)
