Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL – The first half of action showed a tale of two quarters as the NY Sentinels spent the first quarter pounding the home team and carried a 10-0 lead into a 1st and goal opportunity on the back end of an interception. The Tuskers defense tightened up and forced a fumble on 3rd down that was recovered by the home team in the end zone. At that point, the complexion of the game changed. Brooks Bollinger found his rhythm and drove the Florida squad down the field for their first score, essentially executing a 14 point swing as a result of the turnover pair.
On the Sentinels next possession, Quinn Gray locked in on his WR and Fakhir Brown made a great play on the ball to make the interception and set Florida up for the go ahead score. From that point, the Tuskers leveraged their well staffed lineup to continue to pound on the Sentinels. The final score ended up 35 – 13, but as a fan, this is a good game with names you know. The prices are low enough that you can take the whole family out and not break the bank. They make the home team available a la the Arena League postgame for autographs which is nice for the kids.
WTB? local connection, Ronnie Ghent, had a nice game. Three catches (yardage unavailable at this point, live stats were not provided in the press box). Special teams play was good. As usual with tight ends, there were more opportunities for Gray to hit him, but the fact that the team has only been together for about a month I believe contributed to the anemic offense. The biggest surprise for the NY Sentinels was the lack of pressure by the Sentinels defensive line, anchored by ex Buccaneer Simeon Rice. The Tuskers were able to impose their will on the ground as well as through the air the entire night. Now the Tuskers have an NFL heavy roster, so until the rest of the league is able to get some schemes installed, expect the Florida squad to fare well in the UFL.
The Tuskers play next in the Citrus Bowl on October 22nd against the California Redwoods. The final “Home Game” of the Premiere Season for the Tuskers is at the Trop on October 30th. If you get a chance, pick up some tix and check out more football. Can you ever really get enough?
