Some of you may know that I am kind of awesome. (Mostly family and people I pay). I am a former Fantasy Football Champion of two leagues and pretty much feel like I know everything and that I am merely the victim of unfair bounces, improper calculation and alien manipulation of CBS Sports Fantasy Football Website. For those and many more reasons, I had decided NOT to participate in a Fantasy Football League this year.
Then it happened!
I got an email from my old friends at Crown Royal (yes, I know the story could end there and it would already be cool). More specifically, I received a note from the team running a new campaign Crown Royal is running entitled “Reign On!” (Hashtag #ReignOn). Essentially, the good folks at Crown Royal are trying to remind folks like us that Crown is not just an awesome whiskey but something that is flexible and can become the staple of any hard core tailgater’s bag of tricks. IN order to get that point across, they selected 8 Influential Bloggers (Shut up! Some people think I am influential!) from the NFC and 8 from the AFC and they asked us to duke it out in a Fantasy Football League.
Step 1 was drafting the dream team. Sure we could have scurried off to our own neutral corners and done this crap online but not for this operation! Hello no! We were flown to Baltimore and treated to a night out at M&T Stadium (Home of the current World Champions) where we drafted our teams, ate delicious food, received a guided tour of the stadium (which more notably was where much of the classic movie The Replacements was shot) and then received a whiskey tasting by an expert whiskey taster guy (Google it…there isn’t a name that I could find for it).
So what happened? I had the #2 overall pick int eh draft and went homer style with Doug Martin. In a 16 Team league, the picks got sketchy fast, but my complete roster is listed below. In Week 1 I faced Broncos Reign who was even more homerish than I with 3 Broncos starting.
Yup, Manning was one of them.
My boys made it a fight but I am currently 0-1 after a 116 – 98 Loss (Peyton checked in with 60) in Week 1. I am hoping to bounce back this week and will be reporting on this effort all year long as well as hopefully exposing you folks to some GREAT recipes involving Crown Royal that you should be able to sample at our Hall of Fame Tailgates!
If you are interested in my roster, here is the squad. RB is a REAL issue as I gambled on injury returns as quality depth was low.
