This week’s tailgate…Kegs and Burgers and Fun, oh my!

[singlepic id=974 w=320 h=240 float=right]As always, the WTB?/BucsChat.com tailgate will be ridiculous. This week, the fine folks from TurboChill will be providing us some delicious beer cooled and served in their new, patent pending “jockey box”. Check out the video on their site to see what we are talking about or better yet, come to support the team and enjoy a cold beer from the new Czar of the Tailgate Beer Dispenser Cooler thingies!

As for Chef Red, he is providing the new Detroit Blue Burgers. No, this is not a Detroit classic but an artistic take on the city which I am sure you will enjoy. We will be out at the normal time and in the normal location. For you Facebook folks, the invite is here!

Detroit Blue Burgers

Our Buccaneers are on a mission to make the playoffs and I am making my tailgating race now.  This week we have our old division mates the Detroit Lions coming to Ray Jay.  Detroit is the motor city and filled with blue collar workers.  To pay homage to their workforce and the powder blue uniforms of the Lions I take a spin on the classic burger.  Blue cheese filled burgers are nothing new, but this recipe adds a twist with the cayenne, olive oil, and dressing.  So make them yourself or come to the tailgate and try my Detroit Blue Burgers.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 egg beaten
  • Handful of chopped parsley
  • ½ small onion minced
  • 6 ounces crumbled blue cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Blue cheese dressing
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices

Directions

Combine beef, Worcestershire, garlic powder, cayenne, parsley, egg, onion, salt, and pepper into a bowl and mix well. Divide meat mixture into 4 equal amounts. When forming each patty, place a pile of blue cheese crumbles into the center of the meat, and gently form patty around cheese.

Brush the burgers with extra-virgin olive oil and grill on a outdoor grill preheated to high for 6 minutes on each side. Serve burgers on hamburger buns with lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing.

*This recipe yields 4 servings.  Make sure you increase all amounts equally when tailgating with more friends.

“Tailgating with attitude.”
